Hi, I’m Maria Perriton and I train a small team of harness racing horses at the Franklin Park Training Centre in Pukekohe.
Placebo Effect Stables was set up in 2022 to open up ownership opportunities in the horses I breed. I retain fillies who will become broodmares after racing, and would love to share the fun and excitement of race horse ownership with people who share my values.

OUR VALUES
PLACEBO EFFECT
We believe in the placebo effect, ie horse and human being happy and high on Life :). Massage, Trigger Point Therapy and Energy Healing are used on a regular basis to help our horses recover from the riggers of racing and training.
We don’t believe in using prescription medicines as a training aid.
When our horses do require veterinary treatment they will be rested or on light duties while on any prescription medicines, as recommended by our veterinarian. They can resume full training once any prescription medicine courses are finished and the withholding period has been reached. That way we can be sure the horse is pain free and well before resuming fast work and racing.
ANIMAL WELFARE A HIGH PRIORITY
We follow Harness Racing New Zealand’s Caring for our Standardbreds guidelines.
Our horses are given time off to recover from the riggers of racing and training. They typically get at least one 3 month spell every year.
As an aside, we don’t believe in using any form of PED’s to artificially improve a horses performance. We see PED’s as an animal welfare concern as the side effects can be life threatening to a horse.
OWNERS VALUED
Every ownership member is appreciated, whether you have 1% or 50% share in the horses, you are a valued member of the stable.
Owners are welcome to visit and watch the horses train at Placebo Effect Stables, and we will have open days for the owners several times a year.

LOVE THE HORSE
We treat our horses with care and compassion regardless of whether the horse is a champion or a maiden.
Not all horses make the grade, we are in it for fun, not the $$, winning is a bonus!
LIFE AFTER RACING
Our horses are given humane pathways into their life after racing, as either breeding mares, riding hacks or paddock mates.
